Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 4:33:26 by fatimaarshadA deadly police encounter with suspected militants in the Sherakot area of Lahore, resulted in the death of six of them. According to the details provided so far, these militants belonged to a group which is an offshoot of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and reports of their whereabouts were received by the police.
A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesperson told the press that police “received information that nine to ten suspects belonging to the Ustad Aslam Group of the banned TTP” were present near Tallat Park in Kachi Abadi Sherakot, Lahore.
As soon as these reports were received, a CTD team reached the scene and raided the area. When the militants saw the officials, they opened indiscriminate fire at them. The officials retaliated by opening fire in return and as a result, they ended up killing six militants. Luckily, none of the officials were hurt during the exchange of fire.
Details of the incident later emerged and it was found out that the six suspects were killed by firing of their own accomplices. Sadly, three to four suspects managed to escape the scene in the dark and they are still at large. Investigations are underway to find the escaped suspects.
Weapons and explosives were also recovered, including “four to five kilograms of explosives, four detonators, two Kalashnikov rifles, three motorcycles, four pistols, and 97 bullets.”
Military operation against the terrorists was launched in Punjab after the Gulshan-i-Iqbal blast which claimed the lives of around 75 people in Lahore. Since then, a number of suspected terrorists have been arrested from different parts of Punjab.
