Former Indian cricketer expresses interest to become Pakistan cricket team’s head coach
Thursday, April 7th, 2016 11:08:34 by fatimaarshadThe post of Pakistan cricket team’s head coach is vacant and it seems that prospective candidates from the other side of the border are also interested to apply. In a series of tweets, former Indian cricket player, Vinod Kambli, expressed his interest in becoming the head coach for the Pakistan cricket team.
Vinod Kambli, reached out to Pakistani journalist Asma Shirazi, in order to express his interest in the post. In his first tweet, Kambli just showed his disappointment over Waqar Younis stepping down as the head coach, terming him a ‘fantastic cricketer and good learner of the game’. He later went on to say that he came to know about Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) looking for a head coach and then said that he is ‘available’.
Kambli was later asked by another Pakistani journalist how he will manage to live in such a ‘dangerous’ country, where even his team does not come to play. To this question, he replied that he is not unemployed and if Wasim Akram can become IPL team’s coach, then why can’t he?
Till now, it is still now known whether Kambli is really serious about applying for the head coach position or if he is just trying to make light of the situation.
An entire overhaul of the Pakistan cricket team was initiated after the team’s dismal performance in Asia Cup and World Twenty20 cup. The captaincy of the team was transferred from Shahid Afridi to Sarfraz Ahmed. Waqar Younis also resigned as the head coach of the team, after which the post became vacant. The PCB recently advertised this position but till now, it is not clear who will be selected to coach the team.
