Sacked PPP leader Abdul Qadir Patel interrogated by Rangers
Thursday, April 14th, 2016 8:02:43 by fatimaarshadPakistan People’s Party leader Abdul Qadir Patel was recently sacked from his post on the directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. Initially no reason was given for this dismissal but according to some sources, Patel recently lashed out at the top leadership of his party over its decision to form a fresh coalition with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Sindh.
Shortly after being discharged from his duties, Patel was picked up by the Rangers and he was interrogated for more than five hours. The interrogation revolved around Patel’s alleged links with criminal gangs operative in Lyari. According to some reports, he was taken to the Rangers’ headquarters in Karachi, where Uzair Baloch was also present. Baloch is the leader of the banned Lyari People’s Aman Committee (PAC) chief, who was earlier arrested in a high profile case.
According to the details provided, Patel was asked how he knew Baloch, to which he replied that there were several PPP leaders, including himself, who used to seek help from Uzair Baloch and his gang. Patel was also asked about the murder of former prime minister, Benazir Bhutto’s security chief, Khalid Shehnshah, who was killed in a shooting incident. Patel denied having any knowledge of the murder case and instead, said that Zulfiqar Mirza ‘looked after all affairs’.
When the officials did not get satisfactory answers out of Patel, they sent him to an undisclosed location for further investigations. He can be kept under custody of the Rangers for up to 90 days.
