Army joins police in operation against Chhotu gang
Friday, April 15th, 2016 3:31:40 by fatimaarshadAfter the failed operation against the notorious Chhotu gang in Rajanpur district by the police, efforts are underway to rescue 18 police officers who are held hostage by the gang. According to the latest reports, a hundred army officers have joined the operation in an attempt to rescue the hostages from the grips of this notorious group.
The army officers landed in the Punjab riverine area through helicopters and they are now trying their best to rescue those police officers unharmed. Right now, heavy contingents of policemen and army officers are present in the area which is said to be harboring those deadly criminals. Initially, mobile service was suspended in that area, but it has now been restored on the demands of the Chhotu gang.
The operation against the Chhotu gang was termed Zarb-e-Aahan and it started on 5th Apri, 2016. Yesterday, the operation had to be aborted after the police failed to capture the criminals and instead ended up losing the members of their team. Seven police officers were killed in the deadly fire exchange whereas, initially, 22 policemen were taken hostage. After a few hours, four police officers were released by the gang but 18 are still in their captivity. Four gangsters were also killed and 15 were injured-however, the injured managed to escape.
According to Punjab Inspector General, Mushtaq Sukhera, the first priority of the police is to recover the captured policemen. It has also been reported that the gang has stocked several days’ worth of food and is equipped with sophisticated weaponry.
