Inzamam-ul-Haq likely to become chief selector for Pakistan cricket team
Friday, April 15th, 2016 8:05:03 by fatimaarshadFormer Pakistan team captain, Inzamam-Ul-Haq is rumored to become part of the Pakistan cricket team again, in the role of chief selector. According to some sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reached out to Inzamam and offered him the position of the head of nation selection committee, in an attempt to change the state of the current team.
The Pakistan cricket team has showed very dismal performance during the last few tournaments and now the pressure is on the PCB to make sure that things change for the better.
According to some reports, Inzamam may actually consider this offer but currently he is serving as Afghanistan cricket team’s coach. When news of his possible hiring as head selection committee started making rounds, an official statement from the Afghanistan Cricket Board was released. “Inzamam is earning $12,000 as Afghanistan coach…He has not informed about resigning from the position yet,” the board said.
So far, the PCB has not made any official statement in this regard, but an announcement is expected to be made soon. The former captain has also agreed to resign from his current post as the Afghan team’s coach, in case he is offered this new role.
The former head coach of Pakistan cricket team, Waqar Younis, welcomed this news and termed it a good decision.
“Hearing Inzamam coming as chief selector. (Very) good news. Glad PCB now listening to my 2015 recommendations,” Waqar said in a tweet.
According to some sources, former wicket-keeper Rashid Latif was also approached by the PCB for the same position, but Inzamam is the stronger contender out of the two.
