A First Investigation Report (FIR) has been registered against the alleged police officer by the father of a deceased victim. The father, identified as Syed Aamir Abid, stated that his son was not a terrorist or a criminal, in fact, he was an employee of a steel mill.
According to the details provided, Abid states that his son was picked up by the police on 9th October last year, from Malir district. After just a few days, he was killed by SSP Rao Anwar in a staged encounter. SSP Malir, SHO Gadap and SHO Sohrab were also named in the FIR as Anwar’s accomplices.
In the separate petition filed against the same alleged officer, it has been claimed that SSP Rao Anwar has staged 80 fake encounters in the last five years. Several innocent people were killed in this encounters. The petitioner, Rana Faizul Hassan has requested the Sindh High Court to put Anwar’s name in the Exit Control List, so that he does not flee the country in order to avoid trial.
The application was admitted by the court on Monday and directions were given to the police to register a case against Anwar under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and submit a report on the findings.
Anwar is dubbed as ‘encounter specialist’ by some people for carrying out ‘encounters’ of controversial nature against so-called criminals and terrorists. Majority of these cases remained unquestioned but now because of the directives from court, investigations will begin even in old cases.
