Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 12:43:30 by fatimaarshadThe Chhotu Gang has finally laid down arms and surrendered to the security forces on Tuesday. According to some sources, the gang was cornered by the army in their citadel in Kacha Jamal. Part of credit for the surrender also goes to the local tribesmen there, who negotiated between the Chhotu gang and the security forces to reach an agreement.
It has been reported that the 24 policemen who were held as hostages by the gang have been released. While the police verified this report, the army still remains tight-lipped about it.
The operation against Chhotu gang was started by the police, but the army had to intervene when the operation failed. As a result, six police officers were killed while 24 others were taken as hostages. The operation lasted for around 23 days and now reports of the surrender have finally culminated the operation successfully against this notorious gang.
The army took over the operation on 16th April, and then the Chhotu gang was given the deadline of Monday to surrender. After the gang failed to concede, the army launched a full-scale operation against them and pounded their hideouts with gunship helicopters. However, the end result was achieved not only through force, but also with mediation of local Sardars from the Mazari tribe.
Ghulam Rasool, alias Chhotu, the leader of the gang has also surrendered and now he will be tried in the civil courts. According to some reports, around 50 crime cases of different nature have been registered against him and his gang members.
