Musharraf Issued With Non-Bailable Arrest Warrants
Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 8:36:28 by modousarrOn Tuesday, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued by a special court for former president Retired General Pervez Musharraf.
The special court made of a three-judge bench lead by Justice Mazhar Alam Khail, rejected Musharraf’s plea requesting for an exemption to not appear in court.
The former military ruler is being tried by the special court for sabotaging the Constitution in November 2007.
Following his previous no-flight ban in March 2013 after returning to the country to contest the general elections, Musharraf flew to Dubai, on March 18, for medical treatment.
The retired General is faced with charges of terrorism for detaining judges based on an FIR registered against him on August 11, 2009 by the Secretariat police.
Musharraf, in June 2013, was indicted in the judges’detention case.
The charge-sheet claims that the military ruler had imposed a state of emergency and had detained the judges. 15 lawyers have written their statements as witnesses against Musharaf.
An anti-terrorism court, on April 8th had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Musharraf in the case of the detention of judges.
Sohail Ikram, an ATC-II judge granted the warrants due to Musharraf leaving the country without acquiring prior permission.
Akhtar Shah, Musharraf’s counsel, during the proceedings filed a power of attorney resulting in ATC judge enquiring about the whereabouts of the accused.
