Friday, April 22nd, 2016 12:50:10 by fatimaarshadThe coastal city of Karachi is going to be hit with another heat wave and the citizens have already been warned of possible chances of heat stroke cases. The Meteorological Department released a warning to the Government on Thursday about a possible heat wave and it advised the officials to take necessary steps well in advance.
According to the details provided by the Met Department, Karachi is likely to experience temperatures ranging from 38°C to 40°C. The temperature is expected to continue to start rising from Friday and it will last till Sunday.
During this time, the sea breeze will also stop blowing, which will increase the feeling of hotness due to the increased temperatures. The breeze is expected to pick up again on Wednesday, next week. In addition to that, warm and dry air from North and North-West will also move toward Karachi, making matters worse.
The citizens have already been warned of this possible heat-wave and they have been advised to stay indoors and not go out in the sun unnecessarily. The Met Department has also advised people to increase their intake of water, since chances of dehydration also increase during such a warm spell.
All Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) administered hospitals have been put on alert and their heatstroke wards have been mobilized.
Last year, Karachi witnessed one of the worst cases of heat waves in history. Around thousand people died due to heat stroke while several thousand other cases were treated in the hospital.
