Yesterday news of twelve army personnel getting sacked shook the entire nation and now the details behind this scandal have just started emerging. Included in the list of those getting sacked are also high-ranking officials like a Lieutenant General and Major Generals.

According to reports, one of the events which led to the sacking of six of these officers was a car accident which took place on November 26, 2014. The accident involved the son of then Inspector General Frontier Corps (IG-FC) Major General Ejaz Shahid. His son, along with two serving officers, was driving a very expensive imported car. The car crashed and resulted in the death of those two officers.

The families of the deceased wrote a letter to the Chief of the Army Staff, requesting him to give the deceased the status of martyrs since they were killed on duty. While considering this request, the Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif ordered an inquiry in the matter to ascertain how come the Gen. Ejaz’s son was driving such an expensive car.

When Gen. Ejaz was interrogated regarding his financial means, he could not justify the expensive vehicle and in turn, it was discovered that the general had been involved in financial wrong-doings. Apart from other things, he would take money for overlooking activities related to smuggling.

It was also found out that this was not a one-off activity and Gen. Ejaz’s predecessor, Lt. Gen. Obaidullah Khattak was also involved in financial corruption while he was IG-FC in Baluchistan.
