The incident took place in Karor Lal Esan area in Punjab province on April, 17, 2016, when the grandfather of the new-born bought sweets from a local sweets vendor. The dead include the boy’s father and seven of his uncles. The mother of the baby boy did not consume the sweets and is said to be unaffected by the incident.
Another police officer by the name of Rameez Bukhari, confirmed the incident and also reported that so far, three people have been arrested. Those arrested include two brothers who run the bakery and a worker who reportedly made the sweets.
Bukhari also said that it is being speculated that the worker may have inadvertently added pesticides to the sweet mix.
“There was a pesticide shop close by which was being renovated, and the owner had left his pesticides at the bakery for safe keeping,” said Bukhari.
