The arrest was made on early Tuesday morning during a search operation in Karachi’s Azizabad area. This area is close to MQM’s Nine Zero headquarters.
A Rangers official by the name of Colonel Faisal, talked to reporters after the arrest and gave details of the incident.
“Mohammad Kashif alias David, who belongs to the MQM, is a most wanted criminal in multiple targeted killing and terrorism incidents,” Faisal said.
A number of weapons were also recovered during the raid. These included; Kalashnikovs, light machine guns and Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG-7), in addition to Rangers uniforms. The search was carried out in several houses in that area and it took several hours to ensure that every nook and corner of the houses were searched.
After getting arrested, David was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
Rangers led operations were started over two years ago in Karachi, to purge the city of criminals and bring peace back to the metropolis. In March 2015, Rangers arrested a number of MQM workers including senior members such as Amir Khan. Most recently, the officials arrested MQM Rabita Committee Deputy Convener Shahid Pasha in a raid on his residence last month.
During a meeting in the Karachi Corps Headquarters last month, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif said that lasting peace in Karachi is the ‘ultimate aim’ of these Rangers-led operations.
