PCB issues show cause notice to Younis Khan, rejects his apology
Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 12:15:54 by fatimaarshadThe Pakistan Cricket Board issued a show cause notice to batsman Younis Khan after he withdrew from a domestic tournament. Khan apparently threw a tantrum and had a row with the umpires at the Pakistan Cup tournament which is being held in Faisalabad.
The incident took place when the 38-year-old batsman questioned the umpire’s decision during his match against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On Saturday, match referee Aziz-ur-Rehman fined Younis with 50 percent of his match fee. The cricketer was also summoned for a disciplinary hearing.
Younis refused to attend the hearing and even withdrew from the tournament in anger. Upon his actions, the PCB took notice and a show cause notice has been issued to the cricketer and an explanation has been called within seven days.
According to a statement released by PCB, Younis called up PCB chairman Shahryar Khan to apologize for his actions and show his consent to play the remaining matches of the tournament.
However, the PCB did not allow Younis to play and have asked for his legal explanation for the incident. It was also mentioned that the chairman wants due process to be followed and no leniency will be shown in this respect.
“Younis has been a great servant of Pakistan cricket and a true role model for youngsters. I feel pained making this decision as we have to demonstrate that no one is bigger than the game,” Shahryar Khan was quoted as saying in a released statement.
Younis cancelled his flight for Faisalabad on Tuesday and so far, he has not commented on the situation.
