Protestors lash out at Bollywood director Kabir Khan at Karachi Airport
Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 12:46:40 by fatimaarshadBollywood director Kabir Khan is currently on a visit to Pakistan and he was met with an angry crowd at Karachi Airport. Kabir Khan is known to make controversial films some of which include Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Phantom.
Kabir Khan arrived at Karachi to attend a conference a few days back and his plan also includes visiting Lahore. When Khan was on his way to catch a flight to Lahore, he got surrounded by shoe-wielding protestors who started chanting anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans.
Apparently, the protestors were angry over what they called Khan’s ‘anti-Pakistan films’. Khan’s Phantom is about Pakistan’s intelligence agency and the protestors demanded why he did not make similar movies about India’s spy agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
However, Khan did not respond to any of the protestors’ queries and did not even react to their chants. He simply proceeded towards the airport lounge.
Phantom was banned in Pakistan due to its alleged anti-Pakistan content, whereas Bajrangi Bhaijaan was not taken very well in India. For Khan, such controversies are nothing new, because his movies do touch sensitive topics.
During an interview with a local newspaper, Khan said that he had visited Lahore a few months back, but this was his first visit to Karachi. “My film Bajrangi Bhaijaan received a lot of appreciation in Pakistan for which I am grateful. The purpose of the film really was to bring the people closer,” he added
Khan said that the extremists in both the countries do not want the peace process to flourish. He also added that the media is not careful in relaying terrorism related activities resulting in misunderstandings. He also urged Pakistani film-makers to come to India to make films so that things improve between both the countries.
