PTI leaders clash at an informal gathering
Thursday, April 28th, 2016 11:00:07 by modousarrTwo party chief organisers for north and south Punjab, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Shah Mehmood Quresh allegedly got into an intense dispute during an informal dinner gathering at PTI leader Jahangir Tareen’s home.
The PTI leader reported that the incident rendered the other leaders speechless as they witnessed the war of words between the two men. A senior party leader spoke of the disagreement, saying, it absolutely shouldn’t have happened and leaves a bad taste.”
The two leaders reportedly ‘had history’which began when Mr Khan dissipated the organisational structure of the party after Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad, a retired election commissioner proposed it after finding irregularities in the former intra-party elections which took place prior to the general elections.
After the restructuring of the party, Mr Sarwar was appointed chief organizer for the whole of Punjab to which Mr Qureshi objected. The PTI leader, Imran Khan then split the Punjab into two and assigned the task of party organization in the southern section of the region to Mr Qureshi.
The two leaders held grudges against each other since then and recently publicly disclosed their resentment in the run up to the intra-party elections, which was planned to take place this year.
Mr Qureshi publicly censured Mr Sawar at an intra-party election rally in Lahore, earlier this month. According to a party leader who witnessed the incident, Mr Sarwar griped that Mr Qureshi did not disclose the particulars of the meeting with him.
Mr Qureshi responded that the minutiae of the meetings were disclosed to the media as expected. Purportedly, Mr Qureshi was enraged by Chaudhry Sarwar’s tone. Witnesses report that Mr Khan left the table but not before both men kept yelling, “Shut up” to the other.
Naeemul Haq, the party spokesperson who was also present at the meeting was asked about the incident and confirmed that a falling-out had actually happened but added that it was not really a big deal because democratic political leaders are expected to have varying opinions and views, which may sometimes clash.
