Eight Laser Walls Activated By India Along Pakistani Border
Friday, April 29th, 2016 4:34:00 by modousarrAbout eight laser walls have been installed by India with its shared border with Pakistan and there are plans to set up more over the next few days, according to an Indian Border Security Force official (BSF).
A laser wall is a device used to detect objects passing in full view of the laser source and the detector. Laser beams over a river releases a loud siren in the event of a breach. The laser walls are designed to cover large areas of treacherous terrain and riverine areas.
According to a report given by a home ministry official, 40 vulnerable unfenced stretched along the Pakistan border are scheduled for laser wall installation, with the Indian home ministry considering it a top priority in order to prevent infiltration.
The report also added that the laser walls will be monitored by the BSF.
The effort to secure the border was increased by India due to the attack on the Pathankot airbase, which India believes was as a result of terrorists’ crossing over from Pakistan.
The infiltration point is suspected to have been Ujj river in Bamiyal, which India alleges was used by six Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists who attacked the airbase. The river, however, was not covered by a laser.
A laser wall was activated over the stretch by the BSF before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the airbase.
The laser walls were put up since last year by the border force over unfenced riverine stretches in Jammu sector, an area prone to terrorist invasions till three terrorists executed an attack in Gurdaspur in Punjab in July.
It is alleged that they entered India 5km downstream of Bamiyal, not far from the Tash border outpost, an area also not covered by a laser wall.
BSF posts on either side of the river in Bamiyal with a man on each post, monitoring the river throughout the day.
