PM On Opposition: “No difference between agitators and terrorists”
Sunday, May 8th, 2016 8:38:14 by modousarrOn Friday, while inaugurating the 393-kilometre-long Sukkur-Multan motorway and promoting his agenda, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took a punch at his opponents, describing them as “terrorists”, who are halting progress in Pakistan.
In a harsh statement, the PM said, “People should think twice about which side they want to be on… What do terrorists do? They wish to halt progress in Pakistan.”
In reference to his opposition, he went on to ask, “What is the agenda of those who agitate?”
“Don’t they try to stop progress in Pakistan? Don’t they try to disrupt peace? What is the difference between them and terrorists?”
He appreciated China for their assistance and investment in Pakistan.
With the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Islamabad sit-in in mind, he stated “This assistance would have come earlier if it weren’t for the ‘dharnas’.”
PM Sharif’s attacks at the PTI follow as both parties continue to exchange insults over Panamagate. The war of words between the opposition and the government worsened over the recent weeks, with opposition parties carrying out anti-corruption rallies and demanding for the resignation of the Prime Minister due to accusations of corruption following the Panama Papers revelations of the Sharif family’s offshore holdings.
“Lots of people have tried to prove corruption against us,” he said. “General Musharraf spent nine years trying to enforce accountability but was unable to find proof of any kickbacks or commission.”
Sukkur-Multan Motorway
The Peshawar-Karachi motorway forms part of a project and is a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is intended to be built with the financial assistance of China. The motorway is intended to create high speed transportation from Sindh to Punjab.
The six-lane motorway passing through Multan-Jalalpur Peerwala Ahmed Pur East, Ubaro and Pano Aqil will terminate at Sukkur.
About 54 bridges will be constructed, with one major bridge on the river Sutlej. Also included in the project is the construction of 12 service areas, 10 rest areas, 11 interchanges, 10 Flyovers and 426 underpasses.
The Prime Minister did not fail to remind the audience at the inauguration that both he and his party hold a 20-year track record of building infrastructure,
“I want to lay a web of roads connecting all of Pakistan… This project will change the face of Pakistan.”
“We want Pakistan to be included in the leading economies of the world ? this is our agenda,” the prime minister said.
Adding that there will be an increase of economic zones in the province, he stated “I had promised that I will end loadshedding during my five-year term and I will stick to that promise. I will not just end it, but make electricity 30pc cheaper. We are working on roads, motorways, buildings are going up in mere weeks, workshops are being built and LNG projects are being set up.”
Sharif has been on tour around the country to inform many about the development and infrastructure projects. In the past week, he visited Bannu, announcing an international airport and a special economic zone.
