Hundreds attend funeral prayers for slain activist Khurram Zaki

His funeral prayers were held on Sunday evening outside the Chief Minister (CM) House in Karachi, and hundreds of people attended it, including his relatives, supporters and fellow activists. Zaki’s body was brought in a coffin outside the CM house in the form of a rally, in order to raise voice over his unjust death.
Khurram Zaki was a prominent civil society activist and social media campaigner, who was known to hold strong views against religious extremism. He was killed in a targeted attack by unknown gunmen who splayed him with bullets in North Karachi on Saturday night.
Zaki was sitting with a friend outside a café in North Karachi when he was gunned down by unknown gunmen who came on two bikes and opened fire on him. The gunmen fled immediately after that and could not be traced.
Zaki, his friend and a passer-by were injured and they were immediately rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed hospital. Due to his severe injuries, Zaki was later moved to the Aga Khan hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Upon investigation of the crime scene, nine used bullet shells were recovered which were later sent as forensic evidence. The report revealed that the bullets were used in a 9mm bore pistols which had never been used in previous crimes. Further investigations will be carried out to uncover details and bring the culprits to justice.
