Monday, May 9th, 2016 11:55:22 by fatimaarshadThe Rangers have showed their willingness to hold a judicial inquiry into the death of MQM worker Aftaf Ahmed. The MQM worker died while in the paramilitary force’s custody and even though an internal inquiry is already underway, the judicial inquiry will also be held.
According to the details provided, the Director General (DG) Rangers, Major General Bilal Akbar met with the Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and assured him that those who are responsible will be dealt with justly. He said that this move is vital for the credibility of a successful Karachi operation, which was launched to bring peace to the metropolitan.
Aftab Ahmed was captured by the Rangers and taken into a 90-day remand just three days before his death. He had been captured for interrogation and for his alleged links to criminal activities. During his interrogation, Ahmed passed away and initially it was being said that he suffered from cardiac arrest.
A detailed post-mortem was conducted on Ahmed’s corpse and it was fond out that approximately 35 to 40pc of the body surface was found congested due to multiple bruises. Ahmed was MQM’s senior official, Farooq Sattar’s coordinator and his sudden demise caused an uproar amongst the party workers.
A Rangers source who chose to remain anonymous, told reports that hundreds of MQM workers and some party leaders have been in the Rangers’ custody from time to time but none of them ever complained of any torture. However, Aftab Ahmed’s death is an anomaly and through an internal inquiry, it will be ascertained that why he was tortured and the responsible will be brought to justice.
