Tuesday, May 10th, 2016 3:18:20 by fatimaarshadA Chinese engineer who had reportedly ‘gone missing’ during a visit to Pakpattan, has been found in a mosque in Lahore. Initially, it was thought that the Chinese national had been kidnapped, but it was discovered that he had gone to the mosque of his own accord.
The engineer is identified as Muhammad Yousaf, whose Chinese name was Yeuhi. Yousaf was recovered from a mosque in Lahore’s Township area, doing ‘chilla’ which is a spiritual practice of penance and solitude. He had been practicing chilla under the guidance of a religious organization.
Pakpattak District Police Officer (DPO) Kamran Yousaf told reporters that even Yousaf’s wife did not know of his whereabouts and it was her who first reported him missing. The police found him after a grueling 70-hour search, during which they conducted investigations and ultimately traced Yousaf.
According to reports, Yousaf is working at coal-fired power plant at Bin Qasim port in Karachi. He had gone to Pakpattan to meet his in-laws and to get his wife’s travel documents ready so that she could go back with him to China.
During his visit, he vanished completely prompting a search for him. His wife, identified as Sumera, went to the police and reported her husband missing. As a result, SHO Saif Ullah fired an FIR (187/16) against unknown kidnappers.
When the police started their investigations, Yousaf’s call records were traced to a person named Haji Iqbal. Upon interrogation, it was discovered that Yousaf had converted to Islam under Iqbal’s guidance back in 2009 and later married a Muslim woman. Iqbal helped the police in locating Yousaf through a local religious organization, which had sent Yousaf to the mosque in Lahore for his chilla.
