PTI rally in Peshawar marked by mismanagement and disorder
Tuesday, May 10th, 2016 12:41:28 by fatimaarshadPakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) held its rally in Peshawar on Monday, ahead of the local elections for constituency PK-8. The rally was marred by chaos and mismanagement, ultimately forcing the police to resort to aerial firing in order to control the rowdy crowd.
A large crowd of people rushed to reach the stage, while another group tore down the walk-through gate at the venue, causing major disruptions. When police fired aerial shots to control the crowd, people panicked even further and eventually a small stampede was triggered.
The disruptions caused delays in the program and eventually, the party leader Imran Khan, reached the venue at 6:45 PM to address the crowds. When Khan started off his address, he first urged the crowd to remain calm and disciplined in order to avoid any mishaps.
The event was yet again marred with incidents of harassment. Model and singer Annie Khan came to attend the rally ahead of the scheduled time. She got surrounded by dozens of men who harassed her and the incident was caught on tape.
After the incident, a large group of men surrounded Annie Khan and eventually she had to be shoved out of the crowd. The local singer was later escorted out of the venue to safety by police personnel.
Lately, increasing incidents of women harassment at PTI rallies have disturbed the public at large. Khan himself has been very distressed about the issue and he has ordered proper investigation into the case so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
