Ali Haider Gilani talks to media after returning to Pakistan

Son of former Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani made his first public address after returning home from Afghanistan. Haider had remained in the captivity of Taliban for three long years and he was recovered from them through a joint operation by the US and Afghan forces in Ghazni.

Talking to the reporters, Ali Haider said that he was thankful to all those people who prayed for his recovery and did not lose hope. He also added that it felt great to be reunited with his family.
“I was overwhelmed by the sort of welcome I received at home. The whole country celebrated,” said Ali Haider.

Ali Haider was dressed in shalwar kameez during the interview, and he was seen still supporting the beard which he grew during captivity. When a reporter asked him whether he became more religious during his time with the Taliban, he replied that he had always been close to Allah.

When a reporter asked him to give a few details about his time in captivity, he smiled and said; “That is a very long story.”

Another reporter asked Ali Haider whether he would publish a memoire detailing his long ordeal, to which he said that till now, he had no such plans.

Ali Haider kept the address short and he refrained from giving any details about his time as a captor.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani also felt grateful for his son’s return. Speaking to the media, Gilani said, “Ali Haider’s recovery is a miracle. I would like to thank Afghan and US forces,” he said.
