Smuggling Currencies: Chandio Tribe Chief’s Brother Detained

On Wednesday, customs authorities detained Nawabzada Rehan Khan Chandio, younger brother to PPP MPA’s Nawabzada Sardar Ahmed Chandio, also the chieftain of the Chandio tribe. He was held at Karachi airport before he boarded a Dubai-bound flight.

Based on the information given by officials of Pakistan’s Customs’ Drug Enforcement Cell, Rehan Khan Chandio was escorted by an elderly woman, supposedly his maid.
He was bound for Dubai via Emirates Airlines.

Mohammed Ali Memon, senior customs official at the airport stated, “We kept him at the airport and will lodge an FIR against him.”

Officials claimed that he was in possession of 100,000 UAE dirhams (about $25,000), while travelers were only permitted to carry $10,000 or about the same amount in other foreign currencies.
