Models arrested in Iran for posting pictures on Instagram
Monday, May 16th, 2016 3:52:38 by fatimaarshadIran is known for its conservative and hard rules when it comes to women covering up in public. The country still requires women to dress modestly and cover their heads with scarves on all public platforms. Therefore it came as no surprise that authorities arrested Iranian women who were violating these rules by posting their pictures on social networking site, Instagram.
According to reports, security forces arrested six fashion models and two other women in Tehran, who had posted their pictures of themselves on Instagram, without their hijab.
In another post, a group of women are seen skiing with no headscarf and with the following caption on their post; “religious police can’t ski well, so we do what we want up here”.
Iran has a special religious police, which patrols not only the streets of Iran, but also social networking sites, to ensure that no one is violating its strict rules. The country strictly follows Sharia rules since the Islamic Revolution in Iran which took place in 1979.
According to reports, these arrests were made back in January this year, but they were never reported. Two of the models who were arrested named; Elnaz Golrokh and Hamid Fadaei, were allegedly released and they fled the country on January 30.
Names of others who have been arrested are; Melikaa Zamani, Niloofar Behboudi, Donya Moghadam, Dana Nik, Shabnam Molavi, Elnaz Golrokh and Hamid Fadaei.
Instagram accounts of all those violating the rules, have been suspended.
