Indian singer Sonu Nigam performs on street dressed as a beggar

If Sonu Nigam was found singing at a corner of a streets, crowds would go mad after him, but that was not the case when he decided to sing disguised as a beggar. A small experiment was conducted by Sonu Nigam along with the creative director of the project Karl Katgara, who wanted to see how people would react to this experiment.

Sonu Nigam was given the guise of a roadside beggar, and he sat with a harmonium on a street corner in Juhu, which is quite a busy area. The entire experiment was filmed and the video was uploaded on the internet with the title ‘The Roadside Ustaad’.

Nigam sang some of his most famous tunes in his original voice, but even then no one paid any attention to him.

“I went (on to do this video) without any expectations, totally bereft of any awkwardness for the way I was looking and what I was about to subject myself to. For the first time, I was not me. The make-up was so good and authentic that people standing so close to me, couldn’t recognize,” Sonu said, the Indian Express reported.

He also added that the harmonium which he used was the one which his parents bought when he was born.

In the video, Nigam can be seen singing his famous songs while people walked by without paying any attention to him. A few just stopped by for a moment to listen to the songs for a moment, but none of them could recognize him.

Katgara added that the whole purpose of this experiment was to “inspire people to take a moment out of their busy lives and appreciate the beauty of music,”
