Opposition clarifies that Prime Minister’s name not excluded from Panamagate inquiry
Friday, May 27th, 2016 3:27:31 by fatimaarshadPrime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s name has not been removed from the Panamagate inquiry, contrary to what was being said before. According to the latest clarification given by the opposition parties, Nawaz Sharif’s name has not been removed from the proposed Terms of Reference (ToRs) which have been formed for the Panamagate inquiry. This clarification was given by Pakistan People’s Party Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, who is a member of the committee from opposition side.
News of removal of Nawaz Sharif’s name from the ToRs started making rounds on the internet yesterday, but all these rumors were quashed today. Ahsan clarified that “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name continues to exist [in the ToRs] by virtue of Hussain Nawaz being named in the Panama Papers”.
In the proposed ToRs, it is mentioned that the family of the person being probed, including parents, children, spouse and grandchildren, will be part of the inquiry. This automatically brings the name of the Prime Minister in the probe, since all his children are named in the Panama Papers as having offshore companies.
The prime minister’s children — Hassan Nawaz Sharif, Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif —according to Panama data leaks, are the legal beneficiaries of offshore companies set up in British Virgin Islands.
These offshore companies owned at least six properties in the posh area of London which overlooks Hyde Park.
According to reports, the premier receives huge amounts of remittances from his son, Hussain Nawaz, who is settles in the United Kingdom.
