Suspects arrested in the gang-rape, murder case of Indian teenager

Indian police have arrested two men over the gang-rape and murder of a teenage girl in India, whose body was found hanging from a tree. The incident took place in Lucknow, where a similar case had taken place just two years ago.

According to the details provided of the case by a senior officer, the murdered girl was just 15-years-olf and she belonged from one of India’s low social caste. Her body was found hanging from her own scarf, and upon examination, it became clear that she was raped and later strangled to death.

The body of the girl was discovered about a kilometer from her home in Bahraich district. Police Superintendent, Salik Ram Verma told reporters that the girl’s family was contacted after her body was discovered, and they further provided details of the case.

Verma told reporters that the girl had left from her house while her family was sleeping at night, to meet one of the men. When she reached the meeting spot, she discovered that her boyfriend had brought two more men and all three attacked her.

“When the girl resisted their bid, she was raped and later strangled. To make it look like a case of suicide, they hung her body from a tree and left the spot,” Verma told AFP.

Four local police constables were suspended after it was found out that they delayed the case and due to that, the culprits were able to get away. Out of the three suspects, two have been arrested and one is still on the loose.
