Prime Minister Nawas Sharif recovers after open heart surgery in London

A successful open heart surgery has been performed on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and now he is recovering well at a private hospital in central London. The procedure took place on Tuesday, and this is said to be his second cardiac operation in five years’ time.

“Surgery successful by The Grace Of Almighty. The Prime Minister is off the pump now. Will be shifted to ICU in the next 60 mins or so,” Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz said in tweets sent out on Twitter.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s entire family is currently in London, to be by his side. The Chief Minister of Punjab and the PM’s brother, Shahbaz Sharif is also by his brother’s side while he recuperates from his surgery.

According to reports, the procedure of the open heart surgery had been completed without any complications and the entire process took around four to five hours.

A team of top doctors, along with the PM’s personal physician were all present during the operation. After the surgery, Nawaz Sharif was taken off the ventilator and he started breathing on his own.

According to the latest updates, Sharif has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he will remain till he recovers from the procedure. The prime minister’s family also visited him in the ICU. “When he saw me he raised a finger in the air, signifying that he will recover according to Allah’s will,” Shahbaz Sharif said speaking to the media.

In the absence of the Prime Minister, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is performing the duties in his place, but an acting PM has not been appointed.
