Teenage Girl Burnt Alive After Refusing Marriage Proposal in Murree
Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 7:30:21 by modousarrA group of men in a village near Murree on Wednesday tortured and then set fire to a 19-year old girl after she refused a marriage proposal.
According to a report, Maria Sadaqat was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences(PIMS) with 85percent burn injuries. Her death led her family members to protest outside the hospital, claiming that she not given proper medical attention.
Abdul Basit, Sadaqa’s uncle told AFP outside the hospital that “She was badly tortured and then burned alive. We brought her the hospital in Islamabad but she succumbed to her wounds today.”
While grieving outside the hospital, relatives protested as the police moved her body to another hospital for a post-mortem.
Sadaqat told the police in a statement before she passed away that she could identify two of the five attackers. Two of the suspects are claimed to have been arrested by the police. Sadaqat was a teacher at a private school in Dhop Kallar in Lower Dewal.
The police said according to the victim’s statement, the attackers threw her body and set her body on fire after pouring petrol over her. Her cry for help was only heard after she had already suffered massive injuries by neighbors that lived at a distance from her house.
The Dr. Ayesha Ihsani who treated the victim reported that she had suffered 85 percent burns. “The poor girl was improving but then could not survive because most parts of her body had serious burn injuries,” Ayesha Ihsani.
