UCLA mourns the loss of beloved professor in murder-suicide case
Thursday, June 2nd, 2016 5:19:49 by fatimaarshadThe students, staff and teachers of University College of Los Angeles (UCLA) are still in shock over the murder-suicide case which took place on campus on Wednesday. A day after the incident, the details of the case still remain hazy as the mourners come to terms with the loss of one of its beloved professors.
“Our hearts are heavy this evening as our campus family mourns the sudden and tragic deaths of two people on our campus earlier today,” said Chancellor Gene Block in an email. “Our UCLA family has indeed been shaken, but we will rely upon the strong bonds of our community and our faith in one another as we begin the process of healing.”
The incident took place on Wednesday morning in the engineering block of the university. According to reports, the suspect, whose identity is still kept hidden, shot one of the professors at the university named William S. Klug. The suspect then committed suicide and the weapon was also found nearby.
Due to the secrecy surrounding the case, the motive of the shooting is also not clear.
The slain professor was described as gentle and very easy going person, who was also a father of two. “[He was] always very positive. Kids loved working with him because he was such an easy coach to work with,” said Klug’s colleague.
According to the details of the case, a 911 call was made at 10 AM on Wednesday morning. The police responded immediately and the entire campus was put on lock-down. Students were locked into rooms and later evacuated by SWAT members. Later the entire University campus was searched and was given an all-clear sign only after it was clear that no suspect was at large.
Normal classes are expected to resume at UCLA tomorrow.
