The suspected murderer of the mother of a four-year-old boy who was discovered lying ‘abandoned’ at Do Darya seven days ago is believed to be in hiding in Sadiqabad, based on the suspect’s wife statement.

The wife of Rizwan Ayaz Khan, the man who delivered the boy, Abdullah, to Edhi Centre in Clifton told police that the last time she spoke to her husband was on Wednesday night but she was unable to determine where he was. Adeel Hussain Chandio, the superintendent of the police, heading the case investigations confirmed the wife’s statement.

Abdullah’s mother, Halima was discovered lifeless in Delhi Colony on May 31 following the police breaking into her house due to complaints from her neighbors who complained about a foul stench coming from the house. The two incidents of the child’s abandonment and the mother’s death were not believed to be connected.

Connection was found later on by the police when they realized that the man who delivered the child to Edhi was the same person that rented the house where the body was found.

Sonia, the wife of Khan, according to SP Chandio, claimed that she knew the victim, Halima, from Qayyumabad. Halima was a tenant in their house and her husband, Chaudhry Iqbal hardly visited her.

Recently, Halima disappeared from the house. She claims that she is not aware of any romantic affiliations between her husband and the dead woman.

The officer stated that Khan is being considered as the ‘key suspect’ in the case as evidence shows that he plays a pivotal role in the case. He added that nothing more could be added as the chemical examination report of the body would be released in two weeks which is expected to confirm certain facts and answer questions regarding the case.

SI Munir Qalandari, the primary investigation officer was of the opinion that the case is like a puzzle.  “The woman was apparently murdered but we need the chemical examination report to corroborate this fact.”

Presently, Sonia is under questioning and the police expect to trace Khan soon.

Consequently, Halima has been laid to rest in Mawach Goth graveyard by her brother, Muhammad Umar and Edhi volunteers. The brother recommended that his sister’s body be laid immediately as it was already decomposed.

An autopsy done by Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre suggested that the deceased had been dead for about 10 days.

The time gap between the woman’s death and her child’s recovery has a difference of four to five days.
