Bomb blast in Turkey leaves 11 dead, 36 injured
Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 2:15:19 by fatimaarshadA bomb blast took place in a central location in Istanbul, Turkey, causing major terror in the area. According to the details provided, the attack took place on a Turkish police bus, and so far, the motive of the attack is still not known.
The attack took place in the district of Vezneciler on Tuesday morning, and as a result, 11 people were killed while 36 others were injured. Out of the 11 people killed, seven of them were police officers whereas the rest were civilians. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals, and out of them three are still in critical conditions.
Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin was present at the scene of the incident, and he told reporters the details which have been gathered so far. According to Sahin, an explosive-laden car was detonated as soon as the targeted police van drove by.
A Turkish news channel also showed a cell-phone footage of a blackened and mangled vehicle on the street as shopkeepers peered out from a souvenir shop in a district located near the Istanbul University.
A witness also reported seeing another police vehicle damaged due to the attack. Gunshots were also heard in the area after the attack, creating further panic among people.
Armed policemen were also seen in the street near the site of the bomb blast, and according to reports, the entire area is being investigated for possible leads to suspects.
So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, in the recent past, Kurdish militants, Islamic State and radical leftists have all staged attacks in Turkey.
