Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 9:17:51 by modousarrOn Tuesday, the civil-military leadership promised to deter hostile intelligence agencies and their facilitators from promoting terrorism in Pakistan, based on a statement by the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations.
Civil-military leaders held a high-level meeting at the GHQ on Tuesday, deliberating on issues pertaining to national security while recognizing the present regional developments and unfriendly designs against the stability and prosperity of the nation.
The Army chief General Raheel Sharif, DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other senior civil and military officers were present at the meeting.
As a way to further boost regional peace, it was agreed that hostile intelligence agencies will be prevented from encouraging chaos in the country.
On May 26, six agents representing two networks of Afghan intelligence agency NDS were arrested from Quetta. They were accused of involvement in acts of terrorism and target killings in the country.
The arrests followed the detention of an Indian spy and a serving naval officer Kulbhuhan Yadav in Balochistan two months ago. He confessed that RAW, a spy agency was involved in the country.
Members of the meeting dealt extensively on several issues pertaining to the external and internal security state of the country, not to mention the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The meeting delved on the issue of the US drone strike on May 21, showing its concerns and claiming that such an act was a notable violation of the sovereignty of Pakistan, affecting mutual trust.
The strike also contravened the spirit of the Afghan peace process which was held under a mutually agreed quadrilateral framework.
The success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb was outstanding and reservations were made that the achievements reached in ensuring stability in the country ought to be maintained at all costs.
Protection of major national interests was promised by the leadership, including countering any negative external influence.
Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz and Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary attended the meeting.
The Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar, on Monday, stated that some countries were planning against the CPEC but promised that no world power would be able to ruin the project.
