EgyptAir makes emergency landing in Uzbekistan after receiving bomb threat
Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 2:17:58 by fatimaarshadAn EgyptAir flight had to make an emergency landing in Uzbekistan on Wednesday after a call was made to the airline company about a possible bomb on-board. The flight was en route Beijing but due to the threat, an emergency stop had to be made midway.
According to the EgyptAir official, there were 118 passengers and 17 crew members on board the Airbus A-330-220 plane, and they were all safely evacuated after the threat surfaced. The plane landed in Urgench which is located in Western Uzbekistan, and the Uzbek state carrier, Uzbekistan Airways’ officials, helped with the evacuation as well.
According to reports, the entire plane was searched thoroughly after the threat surfaced, but there were no explosives found on plane. It turned out to be a hoax.
“The plane is preparing to resume its journey. It was a hoax, thank God,” said one of the officials.
All the passengers were seated back on the plane after about two hours of delay and the plane resumed its journey to Beijing.
Just last month, an EgyptAir Airbus-320 plane crashed in the Mediterranean while it was flying from Paris to Cairo. All 66 people on-board were killed. So far it is not clear why the plane crashed-investigations into the case are still going on.
Since the crash, EgyptAir has received a number of hoax calls about bombs being on-board the plane, but thankfully, none of the threats were true.
