Justin Trudeau breaks first fast with Muslims
Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 2:48:11 by fatimaarshadCanadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won the hearts of the entire Muslim community when he broke fast with them and wished them in the beginning of this holy month.
According to reports, Trudeau announced that he would be joining a Muslim family while they observe their fast and breaking it at Iftar time during the evening. He did just that and later recounted this feast on Twitter. “It was a pleasure to celebrate Iftar and break the first Ramazan fast with Muslim members of our caucus last night,” Trudeau tweeted.
On Sunday, a day before the holy month of Ramazan kicked off in Canada, Trudeau released a statement, wishing Muslims a holy and blessed Ramazan.
“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those observing this holy month a blessed and peaceful Ramazan.”
“Muslims in Canada and around the world will embark upon a month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer, and reflection to commemorate the revealing of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),” he added.
“During Ramazan, Muslims fast during daylight hours to increase their patience, closeness to God, and generosity towards those less fortunate. It is a time of community, when Muslims invite neighbours and friends to share their evening meal – iftar – recite prayers together, and encourage each other to give to charity,” he added.
He further stressed that all members of the community should follow the spirit of this month and look at those who are less fortunate than them. He ended the note by thanking the Muslim community for being such an integral part of the Canadian community.
