Mother sets daughter on fire for marrying the man of her choice

Love marriages are still considered a major taboo in our society and due to it, thousands of women are killed every year in our country. Sometimes the news makes it to the media, but most of the times, such things are swept under the carpet.

A woman in Lahore, set her daughter on fire for the sole reason, that she married the man of her choice. According to reports, the victim was an 18-year-old girl who eloped with her boyfriend and married him in a secret ceremony.

When the girl’s parents’ found out about this marriage, they coaxed her into coming back and said that they would send her off with their consent. However, that was just a trap and as soon as the girl came back to her home, her mother attacked on her. The mother doused her daughter in petrol and later torched her. The victim died on the spot and neighbors notified police authorities.

The mother was arrested from the scene of the crime, and she professed to killing her daughter for disgracing her family.

The police shifted the girl’s body to a mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted.

Second Division Superintendent Police Ibadar Nisar told reporters that the victim’s brother, who had recently returned from Dubai, is still at large and the police is looking for him. Meanwhile the deceased girl’s husband is also missing from the scene.
