Khawaja Asif apologizes to Shireen Mazari over lewd comments
Thursday, June 9th, 2016 1:36:10 by fatimaarshadA day after Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif passed a rude comment to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Shireen Mazari, he released a formal apology to her through the speaker of the National Assembly.
During Wednesday’s National Assembly (NA) session, Asif got extremely irritated for being interrupted by Mazari and called her a ‘tractor trolley’ in the process. He also asked her if she could turn her male sounding voice to female sounding voice.
Today, he wrote a letter to speaker Ayaz Sadiq, in which he apologized for his behavior.
“In the letter I have written I have apologized to Shireen Mazari. I should not have said what I did. But my reaction was natural,” Khwaja Asif said in the assembly session.
However, Mazari rejected the apology through a letter, and has asked for a formal apology on the floor of the National Assembly. “Everyone in the opposition was shouting but Khwaja Asif targeted me specifically. The remarks were indecent,” she added.
Other women parliamentarians also supported Mazari and strongly condemned Asif’s outburst in the NA session.
Meanwhile PTI leader, Shah Mehmood Qureshi also pitched in his two cents and said that such behavior was making Pakistan a joke in the world. “Men should reconsider their behavior towards women. This has become a national habit,” he said.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is also being criticized for not handling the matte properly to which he said that he tried his best to control the situation, but could not adding that he is a human and ‘not an angel’.
