Post mortem report of girl burnt over love marriage reveals she was strangled first

Post mortem report of girl named Zeenat, who was burnt by her own family for marrying out of her own choice, has been released. According to the report, the girl was first strangled and she was later set on fire. The report further revealed that she was still breathing at the time she was set on fire, as there were traces of smoke found in her respiratory tract.

Zeenat’s entire body had scalded other than her feet. Initially it was being speculated that she might have been poisoned but the post mortem report revealed that there were no traces of poison in her stomach.

According to the details of the case, Zeenat had eloped with her boyfriend named Hassan, a few days back. She ran off with her after her family refused to let her marry Hassan. Then her family contacted her again and asked her to come back so that they could send her off properly with their consent.

Zeenat fell into this trap and as soon as she came home, her mother set her ablaze after strangling her with the help of other family members. Zeenat’s brother, who had returned from Dubai a few day back, is still at large whereas her mother has been arrested.

Zeenat’s husband, Hassan, recorded his statement with the police and said that his wife, with whom he remained married for a few days only, feared for her life after the couple had eloped. “I only allowed her to visit her parents after her paternal uncle guaranteed her safety,” he said.

Love marriages are still considered a taboo in our society and Zeenat’s case highlights the attitude that people have towards this issue.
