A high-level US delegation arrived in Islamabad in the early hours of Friday morning in order to discuss the recent drone strike in Balochistan which ended up claiming the life of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour.

According to the reports, the delegation includes senior US officials including; Senior Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan at the US National Security Council Dr Peter Lavoy and Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson.

Since the time Mullah Mansour was killed in a US drone strike in Pakistani territory, relations between US and Pakistan have been strained. The attack on Pakistani soil was considered a breach of the country’s sovereignty and the both the Prime Minister and Army Chief strongly condemned it.

According to reports, the US delegation to Pakistan will hold talks with Pakistani civil and military authorities today to discuss the circumstances after the May 21, drone strike. The talks are expected to remain tough as Pakistan will deliver its strong concerns over the drone strikes and growing defense ties between India and United States.

The meeting is still underway, and so far the details of the discussion between the officials of both the countries, are still not know.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said during a press conference that the US had sabotaged all Pakistani efforts of the reconciliation process by Killing Mansour. He further added that US’s decision to eliminate Mansour this way is contrary to the decision of four-nation initiative that agreed to give peace a chance.
