UN Chief: Saudi Arabia Removed From Blacklist Due To Extortion
Friday, June 10th, 2016 6:48:37 by modousarrThe decision to temporarily remove the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen from a blacklist by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon came as a result of “undue pressure” from its supporters who threatened to desist from funding various programmes under way by the global organization. The decision was described by Ban Ki-Moon as “painful and difficult” and that the Saudi-led coalition was put on a blacklist for violating child rights.
Reporters were told on Thursday by the UN Chief that he had to contemplate on “the very real prospect” of millions of other children in the Palestinian territories, Syria, Yemen, South Sudan and various other places “would suffer grievously” if the world body’s programmes were defunded.
His decision was denounced by human right groups and he merely gave a statement to respond to the “fierce reaction” to his decision.
The secretary general was accused of giving in to Saudi Arabia and claimed that the US-backed coalition ought to be on the list for its attacks on children, schools and hospitals.
