Florida gunman was mentally unstable claims ex-wife
Monday, June 13th, 2016 12:58:08 by fatimaarshadA 29-year-old American Afghan gunman, who opened fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was mentally unstable and had a violent temper, said his ex-wife. The gunman, identified as Omar Mateen, ended up killing 50 people and injuring 53 others, before being killed by the police.
Sitora Yusufiy, the ex-wife of Omar Mateen, held a press conference and gave details about her former spouse. She said that the slain shooter was emotionally and mentally disturbed and he even had a very violent temper. Despite these shortcomings, he aspired to become a police officer.
Yusufiy told reporters that she was ‘rescued’ by family members from her ex-husband after just four months of a very tumultuous marriage that eventually ended in divorce. Although records show that the couple divorced after two years of being married, Yusufiy told press that the time spent with him was just four months.
Yusufiy said that he would regularly beat her and would not even let her speak to her family. She said that family members actually had to come and pull her out of his arms. “He was mentally unstable and mentally ill,” said a visibly distraught Yusufiy.
According to Yusufiy, Mateen was also a religious man, and he also attended the evening prayers in a mosque. Even though Mateen confessed his allegiance to militant Islamic group ISIS on a 911 call after the shooting, Yusufiy claims that he was not connected to any group and that he was just mentally unstable.
Investigations into the case are still going on and so far, Mateen’s connection with any group has not been established.
