Shahbaz Taseer receives signed jersey from Manchester United
Monday, June 13th, 2016 1:18:15 by fatimaarshadShahbaz Taseer, son of slain Punjab governor Salman Taseer, recently received a signed jersey from his favorite football team, Manchester United. Shahbaz Taseer himself was kidnapped by the Taliban and was recently released after spending five years in their captivity.
During a harrowing recount of what he had to go through while in captivity, Taseer revealed that one of the things which kept him sane during that time, was listening to football matches. During the same interview, Taseer revealed that he is a big Manchester United fan, and word got to the team, after which he received a signed jersey.
Taseer revealed that during captivity, one of the guards was also a fellow United fan, and it was him who snuck in a radio for Taseer. “For me, it was a window to the outside world. Getting soccer news kept me sane,” Taseer wrote in Pakistan´s Daily Times newspaper.
On Saturday, Shahbaz Taseer tweeted a picture of himself, wearing the famous red jersey of his team Manchester United. “OMG @ManUtd just sent me this!!!,” he wrote. “I´m in shock! Thank you boys!,” he added, expressing his gratitude to the squad members who signed the shirt.
Taseer was captured by the Taliban in 2011 and since then, he remained in their custody. Initially, he remained with the Uzbek Taliban who tortured him brutally. Later a fight between the Uzbek and Afghan Taliban resulted in his transference to the later. Eventually, one of the Taliban helped him escape and Taseer was eventually found in a small town and later safely transferred to Lahore, where he is living with his family.
