Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 12:52:13 by fatimaarshadThese days, TV channels will do just about anything to get ratings and increase their viewership, but thankfully, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has stepped in to ensure some level of decency is maintained.
According to reports, PEMRA has issued a show cause notice to Geo TV for airing inappropriate content including ‘suicide scenes’ in its Ramzan transmission program.
The program upon which the complaint is initiated is called ‘Inam Ghar’ and it is hosted by Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain.
According to the details provided, the particular episode of the show was aired on June 13, and it showed scenes of ‘a girl committing suicide’. The regulatory authority called for an explanation from Geo TV by June 21, and questioned that “why it should not ban the programme [Inaam Ghar].
PEMRA also highlighted that Dr Amir Liaquat provokes people to do strange activities and express anger in Punjabi language and this is something which is a clear violation of rules set by the body on June 1.
Other than PEMRA, the public at large is questioning the content of this program as the host of the show encourages people to do silly and degrading activities for the sake of gift and cash prizes.
Some serving officers of the Pakistan Army have also reportedly sent in their complaints against Liaquat’s promotional advertisement for the show, in which he is shown as a soldier. The complainants expressed their despair for using Pakistani flag and army’s uniform for commercial incentives.
