Tahir-ul-Qadri returns to Pakistan, announces sit-in protest on June 17
Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 12:29:13 by fatimaarshadPakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri is back in Pakistan and he is demanding justice to be served over the Model Town massacre incident. Qadri arrived in Pakistan after eight months and he has announced that he and his supporters will stage a protest and sit-ins on June 17, 2016.
Qadri arrived at the airport earlier today and was welcomed by his supporters. “I want to thank all those who came despite fasting in this sweltering heat,” he said.
June 17, will mark the second anniversary of the Model Town massacre, which ended up claiming the lives of a few PAT workers. Qadri criticized the government and blamed them for blatantly murdering innocent women and children on June 17, 2014.
“The murders were committed on the behest of the government,” he raged. “Where will we get justice from?”
The PAT chief refused to give any further details about the planned sit-in protest and said that all the details will be shared on June 17, at Mall Road. Upon being questioned about the duration of the protest, Qadri said that he could not say whether the sit-in would be long or short.
He termed the incident state terrorism and requested the Army Chief to step in and ensure that justice is served.
“The FIR regarding the Model Town massacre was registered at the guarantee of the army chief,” he said. “After having the FIR registered, army chief should also ensure justice is served,” he added.
Qadri also asked for the Model Town massacre to be tried by the military courts under the National Action Plan.
