Alligator kills a 2-year-old boy at Florida Disney resort
Thursday, June 16th, 2016 1:47:40 by fatimaarshadSummer vacation for the Graves family turned tragic as their 2-year-old boy was grabbed and killed by an alligator at a Disney resort in Florida on Tuesday. According to reports, Matt and Melissa Graves had come to Disney Land, Orlando, with their son Lane, from Nebraska. While the couple was relaxing on the shore, their son was playing at the edge of the lake. All of a sudden, an alligator emerged from the water and snatched Lane away, right in front of the parent’s eyes.
Matt immediately jumped into the water to save his sun, but couldn’t wrestle him out of the alligator’s mouth. The alligator then disappeared into the water and for an entire day, there was no trace of the boy anywhere in the lake.
The next day, police divers recovered the body of the boy from the lake and despite the alligator’s attack, it was intact. Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demmings said that he and a Catholic priest had informed the family that the boy’s body had been recovered.
“It was a tough message to deliver,” Demings told a news conference. “Of course the family was distraught, but also I believe somewhat relieved that we were able to find their son … so that they can come to grips with what has happened.”
Demmings also said that an autopsy will be performed on the boy’s body but it was being assumed that the alligator drowned the boy and he died because of it.
The alligator was believed to be between 4 and 7 feet (1.2 and 2 meters) long.
During the search for the boy, wildlife officials captured and killed five alligators from Seven Seas Lagoon and opened them up for signs of the boy. It is being speculated that the alligator which attacked the boy, was also killed during the search.
Disney Resorts, which earlier closed down due to the incident, are open again.
