Another couple murdered in the name of love

Incidents of killing for the sake of honor are on an all-time high in different parts of Pakistan and this time around, the latest case was reported in Keeranwala village near Mungowal. According to the latest reports, a couple was killed in the name of love in the village which falls in the jurisdiction of Kunjah police station.

The incident took place on Tuesday, when Waqar Naeem, of Baltian village of Daska Tehsil, went to meet his lover, Moamina Zaman of Keeranwala village. Waqar went to meet Moamina in secrecy but the couple was discovered in a room by the girl’s father, Zaman. He became enraged at the site and with help from his two sons, gunned down the couple.

When neighbors heard the gun shots, they informed the police. The police took Zaman in custody, but his two sons and accomplices, Faisal and Rizwan fled the scene and are still at large.

A case against the father and sons was registered on the complaint of Dildar Naeem, who is the brother of the deceased Waqar Naeem. Dildar alleged that his brother was kidnapped by the suspects who later killed him along with the girl. The case was registered under Section 302/34 of Pakistan Penal Code.

Waqar and Moamina’s bodies were shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching hospital for an autopsy and the results will be available in a few days. The police have started their investigations into the case.

Just a month back, a girl was torched to death by her own mother and brother for eloping and marrying her boyfriend in Lahore. The case got widespread media attention and Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Shareef himself ordered the case to be probed.
