Thousands attend Amjad Sabri’s funeral prayers

Funeral prayers of the renowned Qawwal Amjad Sabri are taking place in Karachi right now at Liaquatabad road, and thousands of people have flocked in from all corners of the country to attend it. Sabri was gunned down yesterday by unknown gunmen who attacked him while he was on his way to record an iftar transmission.

Sabri’s family received his body from the Chippa Morgue and it was taken for the funeral prayers to the Liaquatabad area. The prayers will be led by the spiritual heir of Sufi said Baba Farid.

According to the details provided, Sabri will be buried next to his father Ghulam Farid Sabri in Paposh Nagar graveyard which is located in the compound of Pir Herat Shah Warsi’s shrine.

Talking to media reporters, Sabri’s mother told them that Amjad Sabri was the most talented child among her 11 children. “He would sometimes joke that I will move to Defence. But when I said I wanted to stay in this locality he would tell me, “then I can’t leave you”. She told reporters that he was a very obedient ant loving son.

Sabri’s elder brother Sarwat Sabri told reporters that Amjad Sabri did not have any enemies and he also did not receive any threats. “His killers were worse than animals. I urge the government to arrest his killers,” he said in tears.

Meanwhile Sabri’s uncle claimed that he had been receiving threats from unknown sources for quite a while.

According to reports, when Sabri’s assailants shot the side of the car first, he urged them not to kill him as he had small children to look after. However, the killers showed no mercy and murdered him nonetheless.
