Muslim doctor brutally attacked in Houston
Monday, July 4th, 2016 1:46:22 by fatimaarshadHate crimes against Muslims residing in Western countries are at an all-time high, as such incidents are getting reported on a daily basis now. The latest victim of such a hate crime is a Muslim doctor residing in Houston. The victim, identified as Dr. Arslan Tajammul is an eye specialist in his 30s, who was on his way to the morning prayers when his assailants attacked him.
According to the details provided, Tajammul was going to a local mosque in Houston at around 5:30 AM on Sunday morning when three men attacked him. The men shot him twice and then fled away on foot. The incident comes a day after another Muslim man was beaten outside a Florida mosque and on the same day of an attack on two teenage boys outside a mosque in Brooklyn.
The shot eye specialist was immediately rushed to the hospital where he underwent a surgery and is expected to survive. Thankfully, the bullets did not harm any of his internal organs, due to which chances of his survival have increased.
The executive director of Houston branch of Council on American-Islamic Relations, (CAIR), Mustafaa Carroll talked to reporters and told them about the current health state of the doctor. He said that Tajammul is currently in the intensive care unit of the hospital but is expected to make full recovery.
“It’s a real strange occurrence because the mosque is in a poor neighborhood, and they (the attackers) were wearing masks, which could mean all kinds of things,” Carroll said.
However, the police are still not sure about the nature of this crime, and refraining from calling it a hate crime.
Further investigations into the case are expected to provide clearer picture of what actually happened.
