Osama’s Son Promises To Avenge Father’s Assassination

The son of the assassinated Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has intimated his intentions to take revenge against the United States for killing his father. This is based on an audio message posted online.

Hamza bin Laden vowed to continue the world militant group’s fight against the United States and its partners in a 21-minute speech titled “We Are All Osama”, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.

Hamza stated, “We will continue striking you and targeting you in your country and abroad in response to your oppression of the people of Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and the rest of the Muslim lands that did not survive your oppression.”

“As for the revenge by the Islamic nation for Sheikh Osama, may Allah have mercy on him, it is not revenge for Osama the person but it is revenge for those who defended Islam.”

Bin Laden was taken down by US commandos in 2011 at his Pakistani hideout causing a severe blow to the militant group which executed the September 11, 2001 attacks.

According to documents that were discovered in bin Laden’s compound and that were later published by the United States last year, confirmed that his escort tried to reunite the militant leader with Hamza, who was under house arrest in Iran.

Presently in his mid-twenties, Hamza was with his father in Afghanistan before the 9/11 attacks and spent time with him in Pakistan after the US-led invasion forced most of Al Qaeda’s senior leadership there, based on reports by the Brookings Institution.

The organisation’s new chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in an audio message last year introduced Hamza who had a younger voice for the group who elderly leaders have fought to inspire militants the world over stimulated by the IS.

Bruce Riedel of Brookings commented that “Hamza provides a new face for Al Qaeda, one that directly connects to the group’s founder. He is an articulate and dangerous enemy.”
