Edhi Coin Expected To Be Issued By State Bank

A special coin to pay tribute to the celebrated humanitarian, Abdul Sattar Edhi who died last week is expected to be issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
SBP Spokesman Abid Qamar stated that the denomination, shape and other specifics with reference to the coin will be made known on Saturday at special condolence program for Edhi.
Well recognized by so many as a national hero, Abdul Sattar Edhi formed a charitable empire from scratch. He was the brains behind Pakistan’s biggest welfare organization relying completely on private funds.
In 2013, he was diagnosed with kidney failure. However, he was unable to receive a transplant as a result of frail health and had been receiving treatment at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation.
During a scheduled dialysis on Friday, Edhi struggled with breathing following which doctors decided to place him on a ventilator.
He later passed on Friday night in Karachi at the age of 88.
Thousands of people, especially high-profile politicians and government officials congregated at the National Stadium on Sunday to attend Edhi’s funeral prayers.
The revered civil servant was given a guard of honor and a 19-gun salute by the Pakistan Army as his body was moved from the National Stadium following a state funeral. He was laid to rest at Edhi village.
